FOR IMMIDIATE RELEASE:
THE ANTI BEAUTY PAGEANT Saturday/Sunday MARCH 1-2

The Anti Beauty Pageant, a women driven festival celebrating women in
the arts, will be taking place at Ground Zero in Bellevue on March 1
& 2.  It is a festival primarily aimed at bringing young women
together to learn skills, share knowledge, and inspire each other.
The weekend will consist of skill sharing workshops starting at
12:00pm each day, and performers in the evenings, starting at 6pm. 
There will be an art gallery opening with local artists, an open jam
space, dinner provided by Food Not Bombs on Saturday, and a place to
rest your little head on Saturday night if you don't feel like
driving home after such a long day

WORKSHOP SCHEDULE:
Saturday March 1
FIRST SESSION from 12:00 2:00pm

·      KNOW YOUR PARTS SKATEBOARD / SNOWBOARD
-learn about all the parts to your skateboard or snowboard, as well
as how to assemble and do basic maintenance.  with Tarci Burnside
·      LIVE SOUND LOW DOWN
-an intro course on running sound for live shows:  terminology,
equipment techniques & industry standards.  w/ Ground Zero techs.

·      "SO YOU WANNA SEW?"
-Resurrect that too-big t-shirt (w/ the graphic you just CAN'T bear
to part with) & transform it into the cutest pair of hiphugger
undies.  Bring your t-shirt & a roll-with-the-punches kinda
attitude.  w/  Tobi DeGoede

SECOND SESSION from 2:30 4:30pm

·      FICTION FREAKS GET OUT YOUR PENS
-We'll explore Prose to Personal, Manifesto to Performance Poetry to
DIY formats such as Zines, Chatbooks, etc  w/ Gigi Grinstad &
Katinka Kraft of OR-A-TRIX
·      WORKING EFFECTIVELY WITH ELECTED OFFICIALS
-learn the best way to get the attention of your local
representatives to get your voice heard.  Stephanie Pure talks about
her experience working as a citizen lobbyist & a legislative aide
along with others in Seattle polotics
·      " CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS VEGAN"
-learn how to make simple vegan sweets that don't taste vegan.  For
vegans, & non-vegans interested in learning how to cook animal free. 
w/  Adriana Maza  *pre registration recommended

·      SHOOT A ROCKSTAR
-learn the basics of shooting concert photos including composition &
camera techniques.  *bring your own T-max B&W film; cameras will be
available for use for those without them.  w/ Caitlin Mcelroy

THIRD SESSION from 12:00 2:00pm

·      MEET ME IN THE DARKROOM
-intro to the darkroom:  film development and printing photos in
black & white.  bring your own finished role of B&W film to
develop..  w/ Caitlin Mcelroy
·      BASICS IN CHAIN SPINNING (POI SPINNING)
-maybe you've seen someone spin chains w/ big balls of fire on the
ends?  or someone spin glowsticks?  It is also referred to as "Poi"
spinning.  come learn a few basics or get help w/ more advanced
moves.  only 10 spaces available.  practice materials provided. 
·      DIY NON PROFIT ORGANIZING
-don't let the paperwork scare you, this intro course will cover some
ins & outs of starting a non-profit organization from vision to
incorporation documents.  w/ Jenn Koscielniak & Cindy Peterson
·      SUPERSTAR SONGWRITING
-learn the basic craft of writing a good song.  this workshop will
discuss everything from melody structure to lyrics and more.  w/ Amy
Mahardy & Katinka Kraft

FOURTH SESSION from 3:00 5:00pm

·      THIS IS MY FIST: FIGHTING HOMOPHOBIA & GENDER STRUCTURES
-focusing on ways to remove gender constructs & homophobia within the
music world.  we'll discuss strategies & barriers that we can break
down  w/ Daniel Brazil / vulgaria lesboi
·      FASHION DESIGN WITH VAIN
-feminist-ing fashion: everything you wanted to know about putting on
a fashion show:  hairstyling, fashion & make up design.  Commences w/
DIY fashion show at 5pm.  w/  Victoria Gentry & VAIN
·      GRRL JAM
-bring your own instruments or use ours..learn the techniques for
jamming w/ new people & play some easy to learn songs.   w/  Amy
Stolzenbach & Carla Desantis
